COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — The eighth ranked (BCS) Gamecocks are on their off week this week. With them taking a break this week, let’s take a look at some of the team’s numbers and how they compare to the rest of the SEC. Today we look at the defense. The Gamecocks are fourth in the conference in total defense and rank 13th nationally allowing 2729 total yards, 303.22 per game, through nine games and are allowing 18.33 points per game. Carolina has the most sacks in the SEC with 30 or 3.33 per game. USC has also had 10 interceptions so far. Alabama not only leads the conference but the nation in total defense allowing 203.12 yards per game, 1625 total for the season. The Tide are allowing just 8.13 points per game. ‘Bama is fifth in the conference with 20 sacks but lead the conference in interceptions with 14. LSU has given up only 1947 total yards this season, 243.38 per game and giving up 14.63 points a game. The Tigers have 23 sacks so far this season, 2.88 per game and also have 13 interceptions on the season. Florida has allowed 2247 yards this season, 280.88 per game, and allowing 12.75 points per game. The Gators have 16 sacks and 11 interceptions on the season. Vanderbilt has allowed 2586 yards this season, 323.25 per game, and allowing 19.25 points per game. The Commodores have 19 sacks and 4 interceptions on the season. Missouri has allowed 2672 yards this season, 334 per game, and allowing 23.63 points per game. The Tigers have 19 sacks and 5 interceptions on the season. Mississippi State has allowed 2708 yards this season, 338.5 per game, and allowing 17.38 points per game. The Bulldogs have 13 sacks and 12 interceptions on the season.
