Rock Hill officer fired after DUI charge
ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) _ A Rock Hill police officer has been fired after he was charged last weekend with driving under the influence, Police Chief John Gregory terminated 28-year-old Sammy Figueroa’s job Tuesday morning. Gregory said Figueroa broke state law, violated personnel resolutions and the department’s rules of conduct. The Indian Land man was off duty when he was arrested Sunday morning in Fort Mill. Police said Figueroa drove over a set of railroad tracks and bottomed out. Officers who pulled over the vehicle said they could “immediately smell” alcohol. They said he did not have his driver’s license with him and failed several field sobriety tests. It was unclear if Figueroa has an attorney. He had been with the department three years.
