USC’s Martin In Search Of Good Leader

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Frank Martin is looking for one guy to step up early on in the basketball season. The Gamecocks are coming off their first loss of the season Wednesday night against Elon, 65-53. USC turned the ball over 22 times in that loss. Martin also called team play “lifeless,” and added that maybe players need a golf cart to help them move around better. Following the game, Lakeem Jackson said the players held a team meeting. Coach Martin is looking to Jackson to be a leader on this team and help start the change in Gamecock basketball. “It doesn’t take everybody to change. It takes one person to change. Then that one person fights to get someone else to change. And then that other guy and him maybe get two or three guys to change. And then before you know it, you get to the end of the year, and now you got your foundation, you got your culture in place. You got guys who are willing to stand up and fight they believe in. Right now, we don’t have that going. Lakeem’s gotta help us to change that. He’s gotta build that. That’s part of his responsibility if he wants people to speak about him the right way 10 years from now.” USC returns to the hardwood Saturday, November 24 against Missouri State as part of the Hoops For Hope Classic in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
