Three-Car Crash With Injuries
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO/AP) — Multiple agencies responded to an early morning collision on Blossom Street. Authorities say two people were killed after a driver fleeing from Cayce police ran a red light and caused an early morning crash. The South Carolina Highway Patrol says the crash happened at around 12:30 a.m. Friday in downtown Columbia. According to a spokesperson with the Columbia Fire Department, emergency personnel received a call about a vehicle fire at Blossom and Huger Streets around 12:40 a.m. Friday morning. Multiple agencies including Columbia Fire, Columbia Police, SC Highway Patrol, and USC police assisted in the accident. Authorities say that once they arrived on the scene, they determined three vehicles had been involved in an accident. Investigators say the driver of a 2011 Hyundai ran a red light while being chased by Cayce police officers. The Hyundai hit a minivan and a taxi. The minivan then hit a building and caught fire. The drivers of the minivan and Hyundai were killed, and their names haven’t been released. The taxi driver wasn’t hurt. Three passengers in the Hyundai also were taken to a hospital. All traffic along Blossom Street between Huger and Lincoln was closed until approximately 5:30 a.m. We are working to bring you more details, as they become available.
