Clemson president up and walking after bypass
GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) _ Clemson University President Jim Barker says he has been able to get out of bed after undergoing heart bypass surgery. The Greenville News reported that Barker sent a message to Clemson students, faculty and supporters Monday saying he walked a lap around the Intensive Care Unit of Greenville Memorial Hospital the day before. The 65-year-old university president had quintuple coronary artery bypass surgery Friday, a day after doctors found several blockages. Barker says his doctors are pleased with his progress and promised to work hard on his rehabilitation. He says he will send another message when he leaves the hospital. Provost Doris Helms is acting as Clemson’s president while Barker recovers.
