A look at SC’s local government fund

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina law requires the state budget to provide local governments with 4.5 percent of the previous year’s state tax collections. However, legislators have suspended that rule since 2008. A look at the local government fund in the following fiscal years:

2006-07: $249 million, 4.5 percent

2007-08: $280 million, 4.5 percent

2008-09: $261 million, 4.2 percent, after $19.5 million mid-year budget cut

2009-10: $230 million, 3.6 percent, after $83,000 mid-year budget cut

2010-11: $203 million, 3.7 percent

2011-12: $183 million, 3.4 percent

2012-13: $213 million, 3.7 percent
