Deadly Tanker Crash Causes Detour on I-20

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO) – An overturned tanker caused a shut down of a busy highway here in the Midlands Tuesday night. It was affecting the westbound lanes of Interstate 20 in northeast Richland County. That’s right around the Spears Creek Church Road exit. Troopers say the driver struck a guardrail, went off the road and hit several trees before flipping. He died as a result of the accident. The South Carolina Highway Patrol added the tanker was empty and did not leak anything on the ground. The highway is now back open in both directions.
