Hit & Run Victim Speaks Out, Investigators Follow New Lead
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — “I was a nurse and now I’m a patient,” Lindsay Bires, hit and run victim. Friday former Palmetto Health nurse, Lindsay Bires joined ABC Columbia News by phone to talk about the search for whoever police say hit her with a car and drove away. “I hope they get em’,” says Bires. Bires is now in Boston undergoing further treatment while police in Columbia continue to search for those responsible. Columbia Police Sergeant William Pegram, who’s supervising the investigation says they received a new, credible lead just Friday morning. Pegram would not elaborate further. However, while leads are coming in, Pegram says they need more. “We know that someone out there, family member, more than likely knows that someone in their family has been involved in this and they’re just at this point afraid to come forward,” says Sgt. Pegram. One thing he does want to make clear is a car that, police say, was rumored to have been involved is not. Pegram says the car was involved in a crime that same night on North Main Street. “We were able to triangulate that vehicle by electronic means and that vehicle was not at the location where she was struck. We located that vehicle and processed it for DNA from the hit and run and determined it was not involved in the hit and run,” says Pegram. But, what they haven’t determined is who was there. In the meantime, Lindsay is working hard everyday to overcome.
