Body Found in Brush Fire

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – Local fire crews make an unexpected discovery beneath the ashes of a blaze in southeast Richland County. They initially were dispatched late Thursday afternoon to a rural area in Eastover. After putting out the flames on Screaming Eagle Road extension, authorities say firefighters came across the burned body of a woman. They have not been able to identify the victim yet nor have they released a cause of death. Authorities do tell us they believe it’s suspicious in nature. A source at the scene says it’s likely the fire was set to cover up the victim’s body, but an exact cause into the fire is still under investigation. If you have any information that could help in this case, you’re asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
