Search For Missing Newberry Man Ends

(WOLO) NEWBERRY,S.C., — Newberry County Sheriff’s say the body of 56 year old Walter Hawkins,Jr. who had not been seen since Friday night. Investigators his remains were discovered Sunday in a wooded area just off of hughway 391 near Maple Knoll Court. Authorities began searching for Hawkins after he and his half brother, 49 year old Daryl Richburg failed to return home after the two were seen together around 11pm Friday night. Crews searched throughout the night for both men, using helicopters and by foot. Authorities say they were also able to find blood near Hawkins home which may help them piece together more clues into their investigation. Sheriff’s say Hawkins family members spotted Richburg who is now accused of committing the murder. Authorities say family members detained Richburg until police arrived. So far, police say the motive appears to be related to an alcohol induced argument. Source: Newberry County Sheriff’s Department
