Son charged in parents’ deaths in Fairfield County

BLAIR, S.C. (AP) — Authorities have charged a 40-year-old man with murder after his parents were found shot to death outside their Fairfield County home.

Chief Deputy Keith Lewis says a deputy found the bodies of 71-year-old Richard and 70-year-old Ruth Marion Mahorsky on Monday after co-workers called authorities when the two did not show up for work.

Lewis says the couple died from gunshot wounds from a high-powered rifle.

Deputies found the couple’s son, 40-year-old Matthew Mahorsky, inside the home. He was charged with two counts of murder Tuesday. Authorities say he has not asked for an attorney.

Lewis says deputies went to the home in 2004 for a disturbance call after the son pointed a gun at his father.
