Boeing Planning $1 Billion Expansion in SC
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) _ Gov. Nikki Haley says Boeing is now a part of the fabric of South Carolina and that the company’s latest expansion announcement is a tribute to the 6,000 South Carolinians employed by the aerospace giant. Boring announced Tuesday that it will be investing another $1 billion and creating another 2,000 new jobs at its North Charleston manufacturing complex over the next eight years. State Sen. Hugh Leatherman introduced a measure on Tuesday for the state to provide $120 million in incentives to the company to offset Boeing’s upfront expansion costs, like site preparation and utility expenses. Commerce Secretary Bobby Hitt says the incentive package is very similar to one the state offered BMW when its plant in the Upstate expanded after originally opening in the 1990s.
