Abbeville County judge indicted for misconduct

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say an Abbeville County magistrate traded sex for favorable rulings.

The State Grand Jury indicted George Ferguson on two counts of misconduct in office Tuesday.

The indictment against Ferguson says he gave two women favorable treatment in court and money in exchange for sex over the past 17 years. The indictment did not name the women, say what they cases were about or give any other information on the crimes.

Ferguson’s lawyer didn’t return a message seeking comment Tuesday afternoon.

Ferguson was indicted three months after former Abbeville County Sheriff Charles Goodwin was indicted and pleaded guilty to misconduct in office for taking kickbacks on repairs for county vehicles and using a state inmate to do work for himself and his friends.
