2 Marion Police Officers Charged with Assault

MARION, S.C. (AP) _ South Carolina agents say two Marion police officers have been arrested for using excessive force on a suspect. The State Law Enforcement Division said Sgt. Franklin Brown and Cpl. Eric Walters were arrested Thursday and charged with first-degree assault and misconduct in office. Authorities say Walters was taped arresting a woman on April 2, shocking her several times unnecessarily with a Taser. Investigators say Brown came to help Walters with the arrest and stunning the woman with a Taser again. Both officers face up to 10 years in prison on each charge. They have been suspended from the police department without pay. It wasn’t known if they had attorneys.
