COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — “It just sounds awful, evil and ugly and it needs to be unveiled, ripped open, the wound needs to be cleaned out completely. People need to lose their jobs, heads need to roll and somebody in the Obama administration needs to answer for this,” says Chairman Chad Connelly, South Carolina GOP Chairman Connelly is referring to recent allegations that the IRS targeted conservative groups. “Intention is a — a part of the story here. But regardless of the intent, the president believes the conduct was wrong,” says Jay Carney, White House Press Secretary. Carney addressed the media Wednesday afternoon, the same day Attorney General Eric Holder testified before a House Judiciary Committee. “This will not be about parties or this will not be about ideological persuasions, anyone who has broken the law will be held accountable,” says Holder Some of the accusations aimed at the IRS are coming from here in South Carolina. “This looks like a political enemies list, attack list, whatever you wanna call it,” says Connelly ABC Columbia first reported South Carolina Tea Parties were allegedly targeted, Monday. “I do know about several others that got the same letter that the Laurens Tea Party got,” says Connelly While we have not seen the letter, Connelly did give some insight. “I do understand it asks for specific donors and donations and activities and minutes of meetings and activities and things like that,” says Connelly He also tells us the reported targeting may go further than just the organizations. “And it looks like a lot of tea party leaders, a lot of conservative group leaders have been targeted personally, not just their organizations. But, they’ve gotten extra scrutiny and harassment just because they were in leadership roles in these organizations,” says Connelly.
