(WOLO) COLUMBIA.S.C., — The end of this school year is just about here, but that is not necessarily a good thing for all students who officials say could spent the summer starving for more than a vacation. State child nutrition director, Juanita Bowens-Seabrook says they are seeing more children in need throughout the state. To date there are some 800 sites feeding more than a million children each summer in South Carolina. The Program which runs from May to August makes sure children from pre-school through high school have access to regular meals 5 days a week, during summer break when school breakfasts and lunches are not active. Seabrook says they are still in need of volunteers from churchs, summer camps and non-profit organizations to host their own feeding program. Seabrook says in order to do so you must contact your local school food authority.
