Gamecocks Make The Grade In The Classroom

COLUMBIA, S.C. (USC SID) — University of South Carolina student-athletes continued to showcase their success in the classroom, as they ended the Spring 2013 semester with a 3.198 grade point average, surpassing the 3.0 plateau for the 13th consecutive semester, it was announced today. Five teams, including Men‘s Basketball (3.012), Men‘s Soccer (3.619), Women‘s Tennis (3.688), Women‘s Track and Field (3.446) and Volleyball (3.727), earned their highest GPA on record. Overall, 15 of the 17 teams logged a 3.0 or better team GPA. Volleyball earned bragging rights for the second consecutive semester as the departmental GPA leader by recording a 3.727. No team scored below a 2.7 GPA, and 10 teams improved from the previous semester. Football earned its sixth consecutive semester above a 2.7. “The 2012-2013 academic year has been record setting for our student-athletes,” said Maria Hickman, Associate Athletics Director for Academics/Student Development. “Our success is a direct reflection of the student-athletes working to achieve their ultimate goal of graduation.” 89 student-athletes graduated during the 2012-2013 academic year and 16 additional students are on track to complete their degree in August.
