Beaten Manning man dies after 2 months in hospital
MANNING, S.C. (AP) — Police have charged three men with murder in the beating of a Manning man who died after spending two months in the hospital.
Authorities said 50-year-old Anthony Wimberly was sitting on his porch on May 26 when three men attacked him, then dragged him into his house and kept beating him.
Investigators say several other people were in the home, but none of them called 911 for at least three hours.
Wimberly was taken to a Columbia hospital, where authorities say he died of complications from the injuries suffered on July 29.
Investigators initially charged 20-year-old Jonathon Newman, 32-year-old Letroy Samuels and 21-year-old Montag Webb with assault, but upgraded those charges to murder after Wimberly died. It wasn’t known if any of the suspects had lawyers.
