Summerton couple die in house fire

SUMMERTON, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a couple has been found dead just a few feet from their door after a fire in their Summerton home.

Investigators said a motorist on Interstate 95 saw the fire around 5:30 a.m. Monday and called 911.

Firefighters couldn’t get inside the home because the fire was too intense. Authorities say when they put the blaze out, they found the bodies of a 66-year-old man and his 56-year-old wife in a hallway just a few feet from the back door.

The Clarendon County Coroner’s Office has not released the names of the victims because their family has not been notified.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
