Memorial service planned for SC teen
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Memorial services are being held for a South Carolina teenager whose body was found in a grave outside Elgin.
Relatives say services for Gabbiee Swainson start at 6 p.m. Sunday at Right Direction Church International.
A man previously charged with kidnapping led officers to her body earlier this month as part of a negotiated plea deal. Freddie Grant was sentenced Wednesday to 30 years in prison for murder and kidnapping. The 53-year-old is also serving a federal sentence on an ammunition charge.
Gabbiee was 15 years old when she went missing a year ago. Authorities say Grant dated her mother and used a key he claimed to have lost to enter the family’s home and take Gabbiee from her bed as she slept.
Sunday’s service is open to the public.
