City Hall Renovations Complete

(WOLO) COLUMBIA,S.C., —
It’s been a long time in the making, but the work to restore parts of the 140 year old city hall building is finally complete. City officials tell ABC Columbia news the 1.1 Million dollar project renovated the Mayor’s office, 2nd floor which now has an art gallery, and city council chambers on the 3rd floor.
General Services Director, David Knobe says this is the first time city hall has undergone major renovations. The project for Council Chambers that started last July was budgeted at 800 thousand dollars, but completed for 45 thousand dollars less. Much of that money coming from various sources, including a certain portion of the liquor rebate and a federal reimbursement left over from the lighting project.
The new structure has been outfitted with technology upgrades, a paint job, improved benches, and the new carpet to replace the old asbestos tainted ones.
” It’s really gratifying to come in and see council come upstairs and lighten up and get really excited about being back. Really excited to have people back in city hall.”
