Identity Protection Service: What You Need to Know
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — “This will capture everything and keep an eye on everyone’s entire profile, as well as their children, as well as seniors in their family that may not have credit,” says Governor Nikki Haley, R- South Carolina
In light of the 2012 hacking at the South Carolina Department of Revenue, Governor Haley announced Tuesday that CSID is taking over from Experian to monitor your credit and most personal information.
Haley calls the move a sign of “changing times.”
“We are doing everything and anything possible to make it very hard for hackers to get into our systems,” says Haley
Starting this month, Texas Based CSID will monitor your credit, if you sign up for the service.
The state is paying for it and it’s worth more than $8 million.
If you sign up, you must do so between October 23, 2013- October 1, 2014.
Under the protection plan, CSID will monitor your credit, address changes, court records, non-credit loans, Social Security Numbers and even sex offender registries. This on top of monitoring the online black market.
“On the black market is where the actual identity thieves sell all the information that they’ve stolen via hacker or other compromise,” says Joe Ross, President of CSID.
And when it comes to those responsible for hacking South Carolina, Governor Haley is confident justice will be served.
“I’m confident that we will see justice and it will be a great day when we see justice. But, until then I need to do my job and that is to protect the people of this state,” says Haley
