Man gets life for double-murder in Lexington

LEXINGTON, S.C. (AP) — A man who killed his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend in a Lexington County campground nearly six years ago has been sentenced to life in prison. The State newspaper reported (http://bit.ly/14zB71B ) that 53-year-old Roger Cochran pleaded guilty to murder Monday. His lawyer asked for a 35-year sentence, but prosecutors asked for a life sentence, saying the killings were particularly cruel. Authorities say 52-year-old Gary Stone was shot twice in the groin at the same time 50-year-old Vicki Marcus was killed. Cochran fired nine shots at the couple as they watched TV in the bed of their home. Marcus’ 14-year-old son was in the trailer when his mother was killed in 2007 and told the judge he is still traumatized by seeing his mother’s death.
