SC VA holds conference on anti-suicide resources

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The Dorn Veterans Administration Medical Center is scheduled to hold a health summit to battle suicide and help military veterans learn more about services the center can provide. Medical Center spokesman Kevin McIver says Wednesday’s event is being held at the Medallion Conference Center in Columbia from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Veterans and their families may attend sessions to learn more about health care services in the community and the Veterans Administration. VA officials have estimated that around 20 military veterans have committed suicide every day in recent years. The administration has put forward a plan to help veterans deal with post-traumatic brain injuries and mental health issues and to reduce suicides, which includes holding such conferences around the country.
