Video:Holbrook Updates Pankake Plan

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — The Joey Pankake plan for 2014 isn’t set in stone after the Gamecocks wrapped up fall workouts over the weekend.
Chad Holbrook, who finished his first season as head coach 43-20 and one win away from a trip to the College World Series, planned on moving Pankake to a different position in the field and adding pitcher to his resume, but the rising junior who started at shortstop his two first seasons at USC strained his throwing elbow this fall. That means Pankake likely won’t see the mound in 2014.
“Barring Joey really begging me to pitch him,” Holbrook said at his fall wrap-up press conference Monday, “I don’t know if it’s going to be worth the risk based on what happened this fall.”
