COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Inside Rosewood Florist, while men were lining up to purchase flowers, orders were steadily coming in by phone. Florists were hard at work trying to get orders out. We’re told this week’s ice storm had the staff playing catch-up. The storm forced closures of many area businesses for at least two days. Rosewood Florist is also where we found Andrew Allday and Sean Borgstede. “My buddy here is, it’s kind of an early relationship, so he’s trying to start it off with a bang,” says Borgstede “I like the effort in a relationship,” says Allday Across town, the tables are set at Terra of West Columbia and reservations are fully booked. “It’s our Super Bowl,” says Chef Mike Davis. Blue Ribbon winner and Executive Chef, Mike Davis, says his staff didn’t let the storm get in the way. “The effect was not being able to get stuff in the back door to get ready to go for one of the busiest nights of the year. But, we came up yesterday and braved the elements,” says Davis. Just down the road at the West Columbia Krispy Kreme factory, as fast as doughnuts could be glazed, customers were waiting in line to take them home. Sara Fryer was one of those customers, buying for special valentines. “I have five grandchildren and then I’m getting some for neighbors,” says Fryer She ended up leaving with eight dozen, that’s enough for her valentine waiting in the car. “Yes, I’ll take him some too, I’d be in trouble if I didn’t,” says Fryer At Cupcake in the Vista we found dozens upon dozens of sweet treats ready for baking and boxing. “We were talking earlier about how funny it is, all these guys coming in who are like rushed, last minute and haven’t done anything yet,” says McKenzie Crocker of Cupcake. Crocker says Valentine’s Day is a very busy day for Cupcake. “Lines out the door, depending on the time you know,” says Crocker So from cupcakes, doughnuts, dinner and flowers… Midlands residents prove not even an ice storm can stop love.
