Officer Involved Shooting

York County, SC (WOLO)-The shooting of a 70 year old man reaching for his cane by a York County Deputy, is the state’s ninth-officer involved shooting, this year alone. Authorities say Bobby Canipe was shot once Tuesday after being stopped for an expired license plate as he drove home. A Sheriff’s spokesman says 24-year-old Deputy Terrence Knox thought Canipe was reaching for a rifle. Sled is now weighing in… saying officer involved shootings are on the rise in South Carolina. 42 such shootings were reported last year. That’s up from just 27 in 2009.
