Elementary Student Left on School Bus for Six Hours

Pelion, S.C. (WOLO)– A Lexington District One school bus driver has been placed on leave after district officials say a child was left on a bus for six hours. According to district spokesperson Mary Beth Hill, at 7:30 Monday morning the driver dropped students off at an Elementary school in Pelion. The driver then parked the bus at Pelion High School. When the driver returned at 1:30 that afternoon to prepare for the afternoon pick-up, the elementary school student was still on the bus. District transportation officials then took the child to Elementary school where they met with the child’s parent who then took the child home. In a statement released to ABC Columbia News, Hill says, “The district takes any incident like this very seriously, and we regret that this has occurred. The district continues to investigate this incident very carefully and thoroughly. Our primary concern is always the health and safety of our students.”
