Hacking Report Bill Dies in Senate

Columbia, S.C. (WOLO) — A measure by a state senator that would require Governor Nikki Haley to make public the full hacking report from when the South Carolina Department of Revenue was hacked in 2012 fails to proceed in the state senate. Democratic Senator Vincent Sheheen, who is running for governor, proposed the measure during session Thursday. The bill died on the senate floor due to Sheheen not specifying in the report how the funds needed to make it public would be allocated. He says he will revise the amendment next week for another vote. Meanwhile, Doug Mayer, a spokesperson for Governor Nikki Haley, said Sheheen ’embarrassed himself and should be more careful when trying to turn serious security issues into political games.” SLED officials say they are still investigating the incident that compromised millions of taxpayers’ personal information.
