Texans Take Clowney With #1 NFL Draft Pick

(WOLO) — Jadeveon Clowney can still call himself #1. Thursday night at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, the Houston Texans took the Gamecock great with the #1 overall pick in the NFL draft. Tears of joy streamed down Clowney’s face as he celebrated with his family. “I was nervous,” Clowney told ESPN immediately after he was selected. “I had to let it out. I was happy about that moment, that situation.” Clowney is the first ESPN #1 nationally-rated high school recruit to go on to be the #1 overall pick in the NFL draft. Clowney set Gamecock football records for sacks (13) and tackles for loss (17.5) as a sophomore in 2012. He joins former USC standout D.J. Swearinger on the Texans defense and will pair with All-Pro defensive end J.J. Watt and the Houston defensive line.
