Columbia, S.C. (WOLO) — Speaker of the House Bobby Harrell wants the state’s Supreme Court to ‘stay any further investigation by the Attorney General,’ regarding his the ethics violations case. This after the high court announced it would allow state prosecutors to continue their investigation into possible criminal wrongdoing by House Speaker Bobby Harrell. Fifth Circuit Court Judge Casey Manning had ruled earlier this month that a court of law should not hear the ethics matter until a legislative ethics panel reviewed it first. The South Carolina Supreme Court overruled that decision. Now Harrell wants the Court to stay Wilson’s efforts to move forward with the case. Prosecutors maintain the corruptions allegations are criminal. Harrell’s attorneys say the matter is civil and should be treated as such. Both sides are to make their case before the state Supreme Court on June 24. That ruling will determine if the allegations are civil or criminal and how the case should proceed.
