Local Memorial Day Celebration
(WOLO) COLUMBIA,S.C., — ” There is not one greatest generation. it’s a spirit that goes through America” It was that same spirit that brought dozens out to Memorial Park – celebrating service men and women who fought, disappeared and died in war. a belabored battle to ensure us our freedoms. Congressman Joe Wilson spoke during the ceremony saying “The reason i can serve, the reason we have freedom of speech is because of the veterans and the people who’ve passed away, dying for our freedoms. Freedom is not free and we were reminded of that today.” A concrete wall with names of the fallen etched along it – served as one sign of the tens of thousands of south carolinians who paid the ultimate sacrifice. crowds from all walks of life, young and old coming together. many of them – saluting the soldiers who’ve made constant sacrifices from year to year – war after war and from one generation to the next. Friday Fort Jackson will lay seven Veterans to rest at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
