A Study Examines Whether Drinking Diet Soda Can Help You Lose Weight

Columbia, SC (WOLO)- Can Drinking diet soda help you lose weight? A new study published in the journal Obesity, found that it can — but there’s a catch. In the study, 300 diet soda drinkers were put on diets and split into two groups, one that could keep drinking diet soda and one that had to quit. The group that kept drinking lost an average of four additional pounds over a 12-week period. But critics say the diet soda drinkers were more successful because sticking to a new diet takes willpower and it’s easier to do if you’re not giving up something else at the same time.
