‘Minor Hiccups’ Hinder Voting Process
Richland County, S.C. (WOLO) — Interim Director for the Richland County Elections and Voter Registration office says ‘minor hiccups’ in Tuesday’s primaries do not compare to what has come to be known as the election debacle of 2012-2013. Samuel Selph told ABC Columbia News delays and confusion were caused by poll workers not showing up; laptop issues and voting machine difficulties. However, he said at no time were voters’ ballots in jeopardy. Rather, the issues were minor and dealt more with the lack of training some 1200 volunteers received prior to the election. He admits that training could have been more in-depth and will be in the future. He also pointed out many voters went to the wrong polling place because they neglected to verify the proper location. He also stated there were 30 polling election technician for 149 precincts who were called in to address technical issues. Good, bad or indifferent, Selph says minor problems are no comparison to those experienced in 2012.2013. “Nothing happening today compares to what happened then. This is a mole hill, very small problems,” said Selph
