Weathers wins GOP primary for agriculture chief
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – Incumbent Hugh Weathers has won the Republican primary for South Carolina’s agriculture commissioner. Early returns show the 57-year-old Weathers winning Tuesday’s Republican primary with 64 percent of the vote over Joe Farmer. Weathers faces two third-party candidates in November. They are American Party candidate Emile DeFelice and United Citizens Party candidate David Edmond. Weathers is a dairy farmer from Orangeburg County. He was first appointed to the post in 2004 to fill out the term of a commissioner indicted for taking money to protect a cockfighting ring. He was elected to four-year terms in 2006 and in 2010.
