DJ Off To Good Start At U.S. Open

(WOLO) — For the first time in seven career tries, Irmo native Dustin Johnson is under par after his opening round at the U.S. Open. The Dutch Fork High School alum fired a first round 1-under 69 at Pinehurst #2 Thursday afternoon. He’s tied for sixth place, four shots behind leader Martin Kaymer who set a Pinehurst #2 record with a first round 65. Two other fellow South Carolina natives didn’t fare quite so well Thursday. Bill Haas is tied for 50th at +2. Fellow Upstate native and former Clemson standout Lucas Glover is +9. The 2009 U.S. Open champion’s opening round of 79 was better than only four other players.
