Atwater Facing Lawsuit in Colleton Co., Calls for SLED investigation

Colleton, Co., SC– Superintendent of Education Candidate Sally Atwater is facing a lawsuit in Colleton County. The lawsuit filed by the McDougall Lawfirm alleges that in December of last year Atwater shoved a student with special needs at Hendersonville Elementary School. ABC Columbia news reached out to the Atwater campaign for a comment. Campaign Spokesperson Luke Byars calls the lawsuit baseless, frivolous, and the lowest political hit job he’s seen in 25 years. Byars also names Atwater’s opponent in the upcoming GOP runoff saying, “Molly Spearman‘s political friends have been running a non-stop coordinated smear campaign against Sally Atwater ever since the primary.” Byars adds, the Atwater campaign will officially be calling on the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division to investigate this attempt to hijack this election through “blackmail and extortion.” Tuesday Atwater will face Molly Spearman in a runoff for the GOP nomination for State Superintendent of Education. The winner of that runoff will face the winner of the democratic runoff between Tom Thompson and Sheila Gallagher.
