Outside Vet Needed for Beaufort Horses

BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) _ A tourism commission in Beaufort is recommending an independent veterinarian check on carriage horses that work in the city. The Beaufort Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1nmcP1k ) the Tourism Advisory Commission wants annual checkups of the horses by an outside veterinarian. The city’s two carriage companies currently have their own vets examine the horses twice a year. The panel recommends that continue. The outside check-ups would have to be paid for by the carriage companies. The change would have to be approved by Beaufort City Council. The recommendation comes after a horse owned by one of the carriage companies fell twice in recent months.
