Water causing huge I-26 backups in Calhoun County

ST. MATTHEWS, S.C. (AP) — Troopers say water is standing on Interstate 26 in Calhoun County, brining traffic to a crawl.

Senior Trooper Hannah Wimberly said the water began collecting onI-26 around mile marker 133 about 7:15 p.m.

Wimberly says the highway isn’t closed, but troopers are directing traffic slowly through the standing water, causing massive backups.

The Department of Transportation says it appears the standing water is caused by a clogged drainpipe. They are trying to fix the problem.

Nation al Weather Service radar estimates 2 to 3 inches of rain have fallen in the area.
