Hurricane Arthur skirts with South Carolina’s coast

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO/CNN/AP) – We are keeping our eyes on the tropics Thursday as Hurricane Arthur skirts along South Carolina’s coast. It’s the first one of the 2014 Atlantic hurricane season. As of the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center, maximum sustained winds are at 75 miles per hour. It makes Arthur a Category One hurricane. A hurricane warning is in effect from Surf City, North Carolina to the North Carolina-Virginia border. Arthur is expected to be nearing the North Carolina coast Thursday night into Friday. Mandatory evacuations are underway for Hatteras Island, along the state’s outer banks. Meanwhile in South Carolina, officials are warning about rain, wind and potential rip tides.
