Union County Jail Guard Charged with Assault

UNION, S.C. (AP) _ Authorities say an officer at the Union County jail has been arrested after pushing a female inmate against a wall, causing her to cut her head. State Law Enforcement Division agents said 38-year-old Ronald Pruitt was arrested Wednesday and charged with third-degree assault. Authorities say Pruitt pushed the inmate on May 31. SLED says the Union County Sheriff’s Office asked its agents to investigate. Pruitt is charged with a misdemeanor and faces up to 30 days in jail and a $500 fine if convicted. It wasn’t known if he had a lawyer.
