COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Fireworks and the 4th of July go hand-in-hand. Area stores, like Casey’s Fireworks, are stocked with the new and old favorites. “We have one called the big one. It takes four people, literally four people to pick up and move. It will take up the bed of an entire large truck,” says John Casey, Owner of Casey’s Fireworks. But, before you handle fireworks authorities want you to keep safety in mind. “Make sure you have, you know, an adult in charge and making sure they coordinate where they are shooting the fireworks and making sure they are a safe distance away from the people that are watching them,” says Casey Other tips include: Follow labeled directions, never allow children to play, hold or light fireworks, never re-light a “dud” firework, only buy from a license/permitted dealer and keep water close by. Under state law, M-80’s and Cherry bombs are illegal. “Because of the magnitude of the explosion,” says Sergeant Curtis Wilson, Richland County Sheriff’s Department Keep in mind, you must be 16 years of age to purchase fireworks, but handling them is a different case. “It’s up to the discretion of the parent,” says Wilson
