Police chaplain training happening in Columbia

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Law enforcement chaplains from far and wide are gathering in South Carolina this week for an annual training seminar.

Columbia is hosting the 41st Annual International Conference of Police Chaplains starting Monday. This year’s meeting is being put on by agencies including police departments in Columbia, Florence and Lexington, as well as the Lexington and Richland County sheriff’s departments.

Organizers expect about 340 chaplains to attend the weeklong event, which includes 40 different training sessions.

Transportation Security Administration Administrator John Pistole is scheduled to participate in an opening session on Monday. There is also a memorial scheduled for Wednesday at First Baptist Church.
