New Contender for SC Governor’s Race

(WOLO) COLUMBIA,S.C.– Tom Ervin is looking to shake things up in a governor’s race otherwise viewed as a 2010 rematch. He’s criticizing both Gov. Nikki Haley and Democratic state Sen. Vincent Sheheen and taking positions that set him apart from either. Ervin could be South Carolina’s first-ever petition candidate on the ballot for governor. The state Election Commission says he’s the first since at least 1950. He’s already spent millions of his own money on ads airing statewide, and the former legislator and judge has no intention of reining in his checkbook. Ervin insists he’s in it to win. While that seems improbable, his candidacy could make an impact regardless. In 2010, just 4.5 percentage points separated Haley from Sheheen. (Source: Associated Press)
