Sign to display crime, weather info in Newberry

NEWBERRY, S.C. (AP) — Authorities in Newberry are hoping to use a new electronic sign to help communicate important messages to the public.

Sheriff Lee Foster says a new sign in front of his office will display messages such as Amber Alerts and crime notifications.

Foster says the sign will also give information about severe weather and rewards for information in criminal cases. Foster says the sign might help disseminate that information to people who might not get the word through other methods, such as email alerts or social media networks.
