Charleston Co. deputy killed, another in critical condition in shooting

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – A Charleston County Sheriff’s Deputy is dead, and another deputy is in critical condition after a shooting took place Monday night in a West Ashley apartment complex. Charleston County deputies say the situation started with a drunken man found banging on the doors of the Ashley River apartment complex. Officials say when law enforcement officers came to handle the situation, the suspect allegedly barricaded himself in an apartment and began firing shots, hitting two deputies. One of those deputies later died. The State Law Enforcement Division is now in charge of the scene with negotiators from the North Charleston Police Department attempting to get in touch with the alleged shooter.
