Haley cancels fundraising trip after SC deaths
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Gov. Nikki Haley’s campaign says she canceled a trip to New York for a fundraiser after the death of a Charleston County sheriff’s deputy and the discovery of the bodies of 5 Lexington County children in Alabama.
Campaign manager Rob Godfrey told The State newspaper (http://bit.ly/Ywflwa) that Haley wanted to remain in South Carolina because of the two tragedies.
The bodies of five children ranging in age from 1 to 8 were found Tuesday afternoon near Camden, Alabama. The Lexington County sheriff planned to discuss the case later Wednesday.
A Charleston County deputy was shot and killed and another officer was wounded when they responded to a disturbance at an apartment complex Tuesday night.
