Richland County officials investigate dead body

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The Richland County Sheriff’s Department and the coroner’s office are investigating a body found behind an apartment complex.

Multiple media outlets reported that the body was found around 5 p.m. Sunday east of Columbia.

Coroner Gary Watts said the remains appear to be those of an adult, but he could not tell if the victim was a man or woman.

Lt. Curtis Wilson said no other details were immediately available.
