Lugoff Fire Dept rescues 2 from flooded vehicle

LUGOFF, S.C. (WOLO) – Heavy rainfall is causing issues throughout the Midlands Friday morning. In Lugoff, fire crews responded to the Saddlebrook subdivision after receiving a report of a vehicle, flooding with an adult and juvenile inside. Fire Chief Dennis Ray says it appears a lot of rain in a short period of time caused a storm drain to overrun, and when a car tried to drive through the high water, it stalled out. He says by the time crews arrived at the scene, the water was up to the two victims’ knees. They were pulled out of the car and taken home. No injuries were reported. As of 8am Friday, Chief Ray says most of the water has receded across the area. They’re just looking at minor street flooding, but he wants to remind the community that the phrase “Turn around, Don’t drown” doesn’t just apply to highways. Flooding can happen on secondary roads, and even in neighborhoods. He says Friday’s incident is a perfect example of that, so don’t chance it.
