SC Airport Bomb-Sniffing Dog Dies in Handler’s Car

GREER, S.C. (AP) _ A bomb-sniffing dog with the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport police department has died after the air conditioning in her handler’s car failed. Airport spokeswoman Rosilyn Weston tells local media outlets the K-9 named Emma died Tuesday. Weston says it’s standard procedure for handlers to leave K-9s in running vehicles while a special air conditioning unit in the back of the car is running. But Weston says that unit malfunctioned Tuesday. She says the handler was in the terminal handling a law enforcement issue when the malfunction happened. Weston says Emma had been with the airport police department more than two years.
